To meet the current need for engineers, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Directorate General of Institutions of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, which is under the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, has given a mandate to 40 universities to organize the Professional Engineer Program. The Professional Engineer Program Study Program (PSPPI), as part of the mandate of Law Number 11 of 2014 concerning Engineering, is an effort by the government to accelerate the creation of independent, responsible Indonesian engineers who have professional ethics and qualifications according to certification standards in a pressing time. Engineering/applied engineering/science graduates who take this PSPPI will receive a professional Engineer certificate and are entitled to use the title Engineer (Ir.).
Sam Ratulangi University, as one of the universities receiving the mandate, has attempted to fulfill the requirements set out in the opening of this PSPPI. The Engineer Profession Program to be held by UNSRAT will later be divided into 2 programs, namely the Regular Program and the Prior Learning Recognition Program (RPL), thus UNSRAT has the authority to grant the Engineer Degree (Ir.) to PSPPI UNSRAT graduates.
